My undergraduate work was completed at University of Maryland and I worked as a licensed social worker in Baltimore City. I served children and adults living with HIV and AIDS and worked closely with survivors of human trafficking. Through graduate school I also worked with victims of intimate partner violence and received licensure as a licensed professional counselor. I have received extensive post-graduate training in Internal Family Systems and Brainspotting. I have trained in Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing (EMDR) and I am certified through the EMDR International Association. My passion for counseling comes from my own life experiences and my continuing life long journey of discovering what it means to be human….what it means to truly be curious and kind with myself and others. Curiosity creates empathy, compassion, knowledge and growth. We can work together to develop that curiosity towards the inner conflict and emotional pain you’re experiencing.
I provide individual psychotherapy to adolescents and adults. If you decide to begin therapy with me, we will work together to determine an integrative and personalized treatment that meets your unique needs. I have extensive training in a variety of therapeutic approaches and techniques, and I work carefully to integrate these methods to tailor treatment to my individual client’s needs. My flexible approach to psychotherapy allows me to help people struggling with a spectrum of emotional concerns and life transitions.
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is an evidence-based integrative psychotherapy approach that alleviates emotional distress associated with disturbing memories. In my practice, I use EMDR to treat a variety of concerns related to distressing memories and experiences, such as sexual assault, birth trauma, loss, and attachment trauma.A successful treatment will demonstrate that emotional distress is reduced, negative beliefs about the self are revised, and physiological discomfort associated with the memory neutralizes.
Internal Family Systems (IFS) Model assumes that the mind consists of a number of “parts.” You’ll notice this when, for example, a friend asks you to an event and you respond with, “Well a part of me wants to go but a part of me doesn’t.” We speak for our parts all the time-we just often don’t notice it. As we develop, parts form a system of interactions among themselves-just like a family. Some parts like each other and some parts don’t. But they all have your best interest at heart from their own perspective. If parts are in difficult positions that they don’t like (feeling overworked or not feeling good about themselves), when we pay attention to them and help the system reorganize, they can change rapidly.
